Think before you Speak

As humans we struggle to not judge. We’re so quick to it that we don’t know what it is like being in the other person’s shoes. Someone might be driving under the speed limit, someone may not have a great attitude, a person might ignore you when you’re trying to get their attention.

Instead of being so quick to judge, stop and think that the person might be going through something you don’t know about. Not a lot of people like to share their feelings and that’s not something we can force them to talk about. It sure is hard trying to be nice to someone when they aren’t nice back, I know.

But instead of being quick to think “well that person needs to go back to driving school” or “someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning”. The person could have had a terrible day, they could have gotten bad news etc. We may not always know why people act the way they do, but that person does.

I’ll admit, I don’t always think nice thoughts during situations like these. It is something I am still trying to work on. It definitely isn’t easy. But once we’re able to change the negative thoughts, we’ll be able to change the way we think. Patience definitely plays a big role in this. Personally I only have so much patience at times, but that is something the Lord is working on within me.

Sometimes a negative thought can be too hard to control, when that happens, I’d say it may be best to just bite your tongue. It’s easier if you can’t think of anything nice to say.
